Costa Rica, Full Spectrum Doula Training & Retreat I November 4-12, 2023

Join our DTC staff & instructors for a week long immersion and retreat in Costa Rica!

Dates:  Sunday November 4th until Sunday November 12th, 2023
Location:  Playa Negra, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica (hosted by Shaunacy, winter resident of Costa Rica)

Time:  This training will deepen the passion and power of those who have previously taken a training in birth work.  Through this week long immersion we will connect attendees to their deeper purpose, redefine their business, and leave them feeling inspired for what lies beyond the glass ceiling of their current birth work practices.  Not only will this week long retreat enlighten the most seasoned doulas, it will also allow them the opportunity to re-certify or refresh their certificates as a full spectrum doula (fertility, labour, postpartum and loss).  All while enjoying the fun, sun and Pura Vida vibes of Costa Rica!

Program details:
Day 1: Welcome and meet and greet while registrants arrive
Day 2: Opening ceremony and settling into accommodations
Day 3: The dissection of our labour and birth work practices
Day 4: The redevelopment of postpartum support in a 2020’s world
Day 5: Excursion Day
Day 6: Supporting through loss and learning through our own histories
Day 7: Planting seeds for fertility support and our own growth
Day 9: Excursion Day and departure for airport
Day 8: Registrants fly home

In her work as a career doula and community educator Shaunacy has supported thousands of families through the most humbling and memorable moments in life.  She now wishes to share her wisdom with you as a DTC member!
This training will be built on the foundations of doula support that Shaunacy has learned as a practicing doula in countries around the world.   It will include the opportunity to sit with other support persons from an international community, and to be in the presence of those who wish to give back.

Upon completing this week-long immersion program registrants will be considered (re)trained doulas in the scope of fertility, labour, postpartum and loss support.  They will complete their practicum hours and online modules upon returning home to become fully certified under DTC.

Practicum hours:  Support of families in the registrants own community must be completed and evaluations by each client submitted on the registrants behalf.
Labour Support – 3 persons
Postpartum Support – 3 person (can be the same as labour, must be at least 8 hours each)
Fertility Support – 2 persons
Loss Support – 3 community based projects in preparation for supporting in loss

Registration Cost:  
A registration cost of $2450 CAD (plus applicable tax) per a registrant is required to attend the full 9 days of training and retreat in Costa Rica.
Cost includes: All training days and materials, food and lodging (7 days total), transportation to/from Liberia airport, membership to DTC, mentorship from Shaunacy, participation in all planned activities/ excursions.

Cost does not include: 
Return airfare to/ from Costa Rica (details about the specific date to book incoming flight will be sent after registration).
Costs do not include additional days in Costa Rica the participant may wish to plan before or after the scheduled training/ retreat dates.

*A minimum of 6 persons must register for training to take place.  Final deadline for registration is October 31st, 2022.  If the event does not run due to low registration a full refund will be provided by August 31st, 2023.  Please do not book flights before contacting DTC for details of arrival dates.  We recommend adding cancellation insurance in case the event cannot move forward.
